Frequently asked questions

Q: How great a concern is indoor air quality in schools?
A: The Environmental Protection Agency ranks poor indoor air quality among the top five environmental risks to public health. Over half of the schools surveyed in the United States reported at least one environmental problem affecting indoor air quality. Problems include molds and toxic fungi; pesticides; volatile organic chemicals emitted from cleaning products, photocopiers, and classroom furnishings. Q: Why was this program developed?
A: The Cleaner Air. Brighter Minds program was developed in response to the growing concerns about classroom air quality and the severe budget shortfalls that have prevented schools from adequately addressing the problem.

Q: How does the program work?
A: The program is similar to any other fundraising effort conducted by schools in the past, but the Cleaner Air. Brighter Minds program offers friends and family an outstanding product that is useful, safe and inexpensive while at the same time dramatically improving the learning environment of their neighborhood schools.

Q: How will an AllerAir Purifier clean the air in a classroom?
A: AllerAir air purifiers use HEPA (high efficiency particle arrestor) filters and MAC-B™ activated carbon to actually trap particles, chemicals and odors, removing them from the air.

Q: What kind of maintenance is required on the Air Purifiers?
A: We recommend that the pre-filter be vacuumed or changed every two to four months. The HEPA filter be replaced after 5 years and the carbon after approximately 1˝ to 2 ˝ years. Note that all these estimates depend on the environment in which the unit is placed.
